Update: Sadly, with heavy hearts, we are here to report that Substantial Subs in Weston, a community staple, has closed. Our memories will last and this review will not be taken down, for nostalgia’s purposes. We have very fond memories of this place.
I used to live right across the street from this place, and while I’m only like 3 or 4 miles away from it now and can get there very easily and often (and I do!), I sure miss being able to just walk across the street and grab my breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
I’ll be honest, I love subs. It might be my favorite kind of lunch treat. And I’m not immune to having it for dinner either. And considering all of the breakfast offerings they have on the menu here as well, you’re pretty much covered at all hours no matter what you are craving.
Substantial Subs Weston Review
This a small in-line shop in the Country Isles Plaza in Weston that also houses a Publix, CVS, Weston’s Massage Envy, a liquor store, Einstein’s Bagels, and a number of other kinds of shops that you would expect from your typical neighborhood strip center. As you can see from the photo below, there are trees mostly blocking their signage so it may be easy to miss, but it’s pretty much right next door to the Publix in this center.
If you are looking for a meal that’s quick and affordable and satisfying, you’ve come to the right place. With nothing on their menu above $9, you can get your fix without breaking the bank. And that doesn’t mean that they skimp on the size – let me assure you that you’re getting more than your money’s worth.I love their breakfast offerings, whether it be getting an omelette or scrambled eggs or some kind of breakfast sandwich, I’ve never had a bad breakfast here.
I love their breakfast offerings, whether it be getting an omelette or scrambled eggs or some kind of breakfast sandwich, I’ve never had a bad breakfast here. French toast and pancakes are also offered, though I can’t say that I have tried them (yet!).
Where they really shine are their lunch/dinner offerings of various subs. Whenever I go to a sandwich shop, I have a couple staples. The first is a meatball sub. I try out the meatball parm at just about every sandwich shop I visit, and they make a great one at Substantial. All the sandwiches are made to order right there in front of you and the staff is friendly and attentive, so you can be sure that you get your sandwich just the way you want. For me that means not going too heavy on the marinara sauce.
My other go-to at a sub shop is the steak and cheese. This is probably my most common order when I dine at Substantial because I just can’t get enough of it. The steak is nice and tender, and chopped and cooked while you wait so you know you’re getting it fresh. For less than $9 you get a huge sub that’s a meal in itself. On top of the steak sandwich, I’ve also tried their burgers (bacon cheeseburger sub for the win!) as well as their buffalo chicken sandwich and always come away pleased.
I’m not much of a salad eater, but it’s in the name of the establishment and I’m sure they do those very well, though I can’t personally comment on their quality myself. Feel free to chime in below in the comments section if you have experiences to share.
Overall this place gives you great food at an unbelievable value – what else could you want?
Note: My only gripe – they close at 8pm! So many times when I lived across the street I found myself hungry between 8 and 9 and really wanted a sub!
