Ever since I was a frequenter of The Grilled Cheeserie food truck in Nashville when I lived there, I’ve been longing to find a place to go out and get a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich, unlike anything that I could make on my own at home. Sure, a grilled cheese is simple to make, but I’m talking about something more than your standard kind that you’d grill on the stovetop at home.
I had thought that this was a delicacy that was reserved for only food trucks, but was really happy when a friend pointed out to me a little restaurant by her house that specializes in this dish and I jumped at the opportunity to grab dinner there with her.
New York Grilled Cheese – Wilton Manors Review
There are two locations for this restaurant but we went to the one in Wilton Manors (Fort Lauderdale neighborhood) off of Wilton Drive. I took a look at the menu online before we went, as we had decided on it earlier in the day, and I immediately knew I wanted to try their Blue Buffalo grilled cheese sandwich. I’m a regular eater of the buffalo chicken sandwich when I eat at the Duffy’s in Weston and this was the most appetizing looking to me (though they all looked amazing and I need to try them all!).
My friend got their special of the week (month? season? I can’t remember) which had meat (I can’t recall if it was beef or pork) and mac and cheese in the sandwich. I had a bite and it was pretty amazing. I like that they press the bread (which is great, by the way) into a waffle texture on the outside. It tastes so good. We also got an order of their waffle fries. Any place that offers waffle fries as an option, it is a must buy for me. They had a few different type of ketchup that were great accompaniments to the awesome fries.
All in all, this was an incredible meal and you can’t beat the price. We both struggled to eat our last bites – these sandwiches are packed thick and are quite filling! The buffalo chicken was as good as I anticipated and while I want to try others the next time I come, I’m quite a creature of habit and I may end up getting it again. I know I’ll be here again often, it’s too good to resist!
If you’re in the Wilton Manors area, or just near downtown Fort Lauderdale in general, it’s worth making a stop at New York Grilled Cheese for a delicious meal! Or you can also check out their Boca Raton location. A nice, simple concept that is executed very well. I’m happy to have been introduced to it!
