Before the new Duffy’s in Weston came along, this was THE place to go for bar food and drinks. And while it still is a serviceable option, Duffy’s has blown it out of the water. But it’s still a place I like to go to from time to time as it has a lot to offer.
This used to be perhaps the busiest sports bar in town, partly because it was the only show in town, but also because it isn’t a bad place to get a drink, enjoy a nice meal, and watch the big sports game.
Carolina Ale House Weston Review
Not to be confused with the “Miller’s Ale House” chain that is spread out around Florida, this is part of the Carolina Ale House family of which there are a few around here.
This establishment is quite large, with two massive bar sections indoors and outdoors. The inside bar is U-shaped and probably fits about 60 stools around it, each with a great view of all the countless big screens that cover every square inch of available real estate on the walls. The main area also has two huge projection screens that always show the most popular sporting event playing at that time. Pool tables and arcade games also fill the remaining indoor seating area.
The outdoor bar is my favorite part of Ale House. Tons of seating at the bar and in high-top tables and a nice view of the body of water adjacent to this location. When it’s a hot day they’ll turn on the misting fans that are spaced throughout the ceiling so you never have to worry about it being too hot sitting outside.
This is the place to go if you’re a Florida Gators fan, as I’ve made the mistake of going there on a Saturday in the fall and the place was awash with blue and orange and the UF fight song playing after every score. Apparently it’s where the local alumni like to gather to cheer on their team.
Given the demographics of Weston residents, this is also a popular spot when the Colombian and Venezuelan national soccer teams are playing (Weston is sometimes jokingly referred to as “Westonzuela”). One time we went there on a Saturday and, unbeknownst to us, there was a game between those two nations’ teams and it was an absolute blast (standing room only) at the outdoor bar.
You can get your usual bar fare of burgers, sandwiches, wings, pizza and the like and it’s all pretty decent. The bars are fully stocked with a pretty extensive beer menu (tons of taps behind the outdoor bar) and they make a pretty stiff cocktail. Overall, nothing to rave about, but a decent place to grab a bite.
However, the service sometimes can be pretty average. There have been times when we don’t see our server for 15 minutes, at times when I’d love another beer. Or when my nephew is in need of a spoon to eat his applesauce that came with his kid’s meal. If it happened once I’d chalk it up to a particularly bad night, but it’s happened more than a few times.
All in all, this is a decent place to go out and watch a game, but there’s certainly better options like Duffy’s. I still go there from time to time, but nearly as often as I used to.
