Miami-International-MallIf you find yourself in the lively city of Doral, be sure to pay a visit to the Miami International Mall at least once. Located in southwestern Metropolitan Miami, this indoor shopping mall has been serving the local community for over four decades. With its strategic location just half a mile away from the bustling Dolphin Mall and close proximity to Miami International Airport, Miami International Mall offers a convenient and exciting shopping experience.

History of the Mall

Miami International Mall first opened its doors on August 17, 1982, as a project by the Edward J. DeBartolo Corp. Over the years, it has evolved into a retail powerhouse, offering a diverse range of stores and services. The mall is currently managed by Simon Property Group, who also holds a significant ownership stake, making it a trusted name in the shopping industry.

Anchors & Later Transformation

Throughout its history, Miami International Mall has seen several transformations. In its early days, it boasted anchors like Burdines, Jordan Marsh, and Sears. Jordan Marsh underwent a revamp and became a Burdines men’s, home, and furniture location. In 1991, Mervyn’s took over the space previously occupied by Lord & Taylor, and later, it was acquired by Dillard’s in 1997. J. C. Penney also joined the mall’s lineup in 1992.

The mall underwent a major renovation in 2000, leading to its grand reopening in 2001. This transformation included modernizing the mall’s appearance by removing old features like trees and fountains. Burdines added a second floor to its store, which is now dedicated to women’s and children’s departments. In 2005, both Burdines stores transitioned into Macy’s as part of a nationwide rebranding effort. Additionally, the Lord & Taylor/Mervyn’s/Dillard’s building was transformed into Kohl’s on September 28, 2011.

Penney, Kohl’s, and Macy’s Men’s Store, the mall offers a diverse array of choices for shoppers. In August 2018, the mall encountered a major hurdle when Sears announced its closure as part of a strategic departure from physical retail stores.
